What to Expect at Your Visit to Balanced Body Massage

  • First, please know that massage therapy is provided as a health care service by a health care professional.  Sexual remarks, advances or gestures are not tolerated.  Any client engaging in this type of activity will be asked to leave and will be charged the full fee for the appointment. Inappropriate clients may also be reported to local law enforcement if necessary.

  • Please arrive about 10 minutes early for your first appointment so you have time to fill out a general health/medical history form. This will ensure you receive the appropriate care and no conditions are present for which massage is not advisable. A quick interview is done before and after all massages to check in on your health and areas of concern so please allow an extra 5 minutes before and after all appointments.  Please let the therapist know when you make your appointment if you have any recent surgeries/illness or medical problems.  In some cases, massage may not be appropriate.

  • It is best not have a heavy meal within 2 hours of your massage.  Massage therapy work draws the blood flow to your muscles and skin surface, away from the digestive process.  This can disrupt the digestion of your food and cause discomfort.

  • For chair massages, you remain clothed and little or no lotion is used.  Because of this, it is OK to be sweaty from a workout or a recent walk, which makes this service great on your way home from the gym.

  • For a therapeutic massage on a massage table, you will be asked to remove clothing to your level of comfort. Undressing takes place in private and freshly cleaned sheets and towels are provided to keep you covered and warm.  The massage table is cushioned and heated and located in a beautifully decorated and relaxing room to ensure that you are relaxed so your muscles and joints can be treated effectively.

  • The therapist will undrape only the part of your body being massaged, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times. Private areas (breasts, genitals and gluteal cleft) always remain covered and are never touched during therapy.

  • Lotions and/or oils are used to help the therapist glide over the skin and to nourish the skin.

  • Always let the therapist know if you ever feel any discomfort or have questions of any kind.

  • After your massage, the therapist may offer suggestions on self-care techniques, such as stretching exercises, to help extend the benefits of massage.

  • During massage, toxins are released from your muscles so it is always important to drink plenty of water after your session to eliminate these toxins from your body.  Not doing so can lead to nausea and an "achy" feeling.  Always feel free to ask if you have any questions!
